Terms of Use for the Artemis Transat Archive
The conditions that govern how you access and use this record of the Plymouth-to-Boston race and its competitors.
Last updated: 12 February 2025
Your Acceptance
When you open any page on this site, you agree to the terms set out below. There is no separate sign-up step. Reading and using the archive is itself the agreement.
These conditions apply to everyone who visits — casual readers, researchers digging through results tables, and anyone reusing material under the limits described here.
If a single clause sits badly with you, the answer is simple. Stop using the site. Continued browsing means you accept the terms as written.
License to Use
We grant you a limited, personal, non-commercial license to read and reference the archive. Look up a skipper's finishing time, follow a class profile, cite a stage of the crossing in your own notes — all of that fits comfortably within the license.
What the license does not cover: copying pages wholesale, reselling our material, or mirroring the archive on another domain. Scraping the site to rebuild it elsewhere is off the table too.
All rights in the text, structure, and compiled records remain reserved. The license lets you use the work; it does not transfer ownership of any part of it.
Warranty Disclaimer
The archive is offered as-is. We assemble race histories from public records and our own research, and we take the work seriously, but we make no warranties of any kind about what you find here.
That means we do not guarantee every entry is error-free or fully current. A start time may have been amended after we logged it. A boat's classification may read differently in another source. Records of this kind carry the small discrepancies that come with compiling from many hands.
Acceptable Use
A short list keeps this shared resource useful for everyone.
If you submit anything to us — a correction, a contact message, a note on a competitor, make it accurate and made in good faith. Fraudulent or deliberately misleading submissions undo the work the archive exists to support.
Do not interfere with the site's security or its availability. That covers attempts to probe for weaknesses, overload the servers, or disrupt access for other visitors. And nothing unlawful, harassing, or abusive belongs here, full stop.
Limited Liability
Use of the archive is at your own risk. We have set this out plainly so there is no confusion later.
To the maximum extent the law allows, we accept no liability for indirect, special, or incidental damages arising from your use of the site — lost time, lost opportunity, or any knock-on effect of relying on material you found here. The records are a reference, not a substitute for official documentation, and the responsibility for how you use them rests with you.
Applicable Law
These terms are read and interpreted under the laws of the jurisdiction in which the archive operates. Any dispute that cannot be resolved between us falls to the competent courts of that jurisdiction.
Should a single clause here be found unenforceable, the rest stands. One provision falling away does not pull the whole agreement down with it; the remaining terms continue in full force.
Modifications to These Terms
We revise these terms from time to time — when the law shifts, when the site grows, or when a clause turns out to need sharpening. Updates take effect once posted.
Using the site after a revision means you accept the updated version. We mark the revision date at the top of this page so you can always check what changed and when. It is worth a glance if you return after a long gap.
Getting in Touch
If any part of these terms reads unclearly, ask. We would rather explain a clause than leave you guessing about it.
